We've Come A Long Way Baby!

Review of all the Curriculum We've used thus far!

This has been an exciting year. We've done a lot. There were some things we didn't finish, but that's okay. I know my kiddos got more out of their school year with me than they would've in another environment.

I ASKED THEM - DO YOU WANT TO DO THIS ANOTHER YEAR?

They want to homeschool. Even though Speed Racer was entertaining the idea of doing a CO-OP.

What were our KEEPERS? Curriculum that WE LIKED
Kid Approved

Some of their choices surprised me, mainly because they complained about some of these items while doing it. They decided to re-do it.

Overall What Works for Us:
Math and Writing has to include curriculums that have written and video.
Most of my kids likes are based on interactive, moving, curriculums with quick responses.
They don't like to read too much, but are efficient readers.
They don't like a lot of writing, but are willing to take notes.
Curriculums with accountability works well. They don't mind quizzes or test.

Items they enjoyed and felt they learned a lot from:
Acellus (online full curriculum learning)
Udemy
Membean
Study.com
CTCMath
FunCation Academy
CodeAcademy.com
Techrocket.com
The Animation Course
Digipen Online Workshop
Youth Digital
ACE Speed Reader (online)
Acellus (online)
Slavery And The Making of America by Morgan Freeman (movie set Amazon)

Items they complained about, but admitted they learned a lot from:
Abeka Homeschool and DVD Lessons
Landry Academy
Xtramath.org
IXL
Sandiego Scribblers
Teaching Textbooks (worked for Geometry and Pre-Calc ONLY)
Spelling You See
Sequential Spelling
Analytical Grammar
Time4Writing
See The Light (Art DVDs)
Instantcert
SpeedyPrep
Worldly Wise
Maestro Learning (State Standards Test)
CLEP LESSON PLANS (clepprep.tripod.com/cleplessonplans/id4.html)

Items they may have learned something, but enjoyed it so much they didn't care:
Minecraft homeschool
Techrocket
Currclick Live Classes (We had short fun classes)

Duds - items that didn't work for us at all
Uzinggo
Wordsmart
Rosetta Stone
Japanese Video Immersion
AllinOne (Easy Peasy) homeschool (was too light in most areas)
A+ Math
Thinkwell
Time4Learning
Switched On Schoolhouse
Homeschool Programming (kids just didn't like the format)
Middlebury Interactive (my kid needed live class)
Mango (my kid needed live class)
Mark Krister's online virtual class

  1. It looks like you certainly tried a variety of curriculum. I am wrapping up my first full year of homeschooling, while working full time. We have our hands full, but look forward to continue to learn through the summer and next year.

  2. Was wondering if I can do this. Working mom with less resources but a boy who needs me. Finding this blog has been a blessing.

  3. I'm looking at SanDiego Scribblers (onlinescribblers.com) for my son next year. I've only found 1 or 2 reviews about them, so I'm a little nervous. Is this a legitimate class? What did you think of it? How many classes did your children take? Could you please email me at nikkiott@yahoo.com
